Terms of use
Last updated: 10 October 2026
These terms cover using Gobo Designer at gobo-designer.com and subscribing to it. They are written to be read, not to be impressive. Where the law gives you a right, these terms do not take it away.
Who you're buying from
Gobo Designer is provided by Ryan Anstey, trading as FableForge, Flat 103, The Antigallican Hotel, 428 Woolwich Road, London SE7 8SU, [email protected] ("we" or "us").
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
In practice that means Paddle.com Market Ltd takes the payment, issues the receipt or invoice and handles tax, under its own buyer terms and privacy policy. These terms govern your use of Gobo Designer itself.
What it is, and what it is not
Gobo Designer is a design aid. It calculates artwork from the fixture data and positions you give it, using published manufacturer figures and a mathematical model of the projection. Real fixtures, lenses and rigs differ from published figures, and the measurements you enter may be out. So:
- check the supplier's proof before any gobo is made, and where it matters, test with a real fixture first (the calibration tool exists for this);
- the checks it runs (clipping, line widths, steel islands, focus spread and the rest) are aids, not guarantees that a gobo will look or perform a particular way;
- it does not advise on rigging, electrical or fire safety. Use gobos only in fixtures, holders and materials their manufacturers specify.
You may use the artwork you make with it for personal or commercial work, including sending it to a gobo supplier and using the gobos in productions.
Subscription and free trial
- Plans are monthly or yearly, at the price shown at checkout.
- Every new subscription starts with a 7-day free trial.
- Your payment details are taken at the start. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the first payment is taken when it ends, and the subscription then renews automatically at the end of each period (each month or year, depending on your plan) until you cancel.
- Paddle sends a receipt for every payment.
Your right to cancel and our refund policy are in the Refund policy.
Failed payments
If a payment fails, Paddle will try again for a short time. If it still can't be collected, your subscription ends and the app is locked; your projects stay in your browser.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time, from your account page (Manage or cancel subscription) or by asking [email protected]. Your access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for, or to the end of the trial. Nothing more is charged.
Price changes
If the price changes, we will email you at least 30 days before the new price applies to your next renewal. You can cancel before it does.
Your access
The subscription is for one person, who may use it on up to 3 browsers at a time. Signing in on a 4th browser signs out the one used least recently.
Don't share your access key. We may reset a key that appears to be shared. You can recover the new one with your email address and order number, from the recover page. You can also reset your own key from your account page, which stops the old key working and signs out your other browsers.
When access ends
When your subscription ends, the app is locked. Your projects stay in your browser, and your account page lets you download them. We don't hold copies of your projects.
Complimentary access
We may give someone complimentary access for a stated period. There is no 3-browser limit on it, and it can't be withdrawn before its end date. It ends on that date, and these terms otherwise apply to it.
Your work and your content
The text, settings and artwork you create are yours. If you upload a font or a logo, or set text or artwork that uses someone else's name, logo or trade mark, you are responsible for having the right to use it, including any font licence covering use in artwork and manufacture.
Our content
Gobo Designer, its name, its icon and its code remain ours. It includes open-source software and fonts that keep their own licences; they are listed on the licences page.
Other people's names
Fixture, lens and software names used in Gobo Designer, such as ETC, Source Four, Robert Juliat, Chauvet, Ovation, Martin, Prolights, Vectorworks, Capture, Rosco, Apollo, GoboLand and Projected Image, are trade marks of their owners. We use them only to identify the equipment and software the tool works with. Gobo Designer is not made, endorsed or supported by any of them.
Changes and availability
We aim to keep the service available, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access. We will announce planned changes on the site. Because your projects are saved in your browser and as files on your device, files you have already saved and exported stay usable.
Our responsibility to you
Gobo Designer is a design aid, so please check the artwork and your supplier's proof before anything is cut.
If you are a consumer: your statutory rights are not affected. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires digital content and digital services to be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality, and those rights apply in full. We are responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breaking these terms or by our failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss is foreseeable if you and we could both have seen it coming when you subscribed. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for loss caused by information you entered, or for loss caused by a supplier not following the artwork.
If you use it in the course of business: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit. Our total liability to you for anything arising out of the service or these terms is limited to the greater of £100 or the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you keep the benefit of the mandatory consumer protections of the law where you live, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
